YELLOW FIN WINS GOVERNOR CUP 2014 MAHAHUAL, MEXICO

The vessel ” Yellow Fin” led by Gerardo Pérez Zafra, was awarded first place in the 23rd annual fishing tournament Governor Cup 2014, held in Mahahual in May. He received a new pick up truck, and the first place trophy .

The second and third place winners of the tournament, were boats from Belize .

” Real Challenger” Captain Enrique Marin, took second place in the table of awards ; while the vessel ” Shelby Dee ” , captained by Bradley Shandy , which was ranked third in the final score, both are from San Pedro Island in Belize.

After weighin the awards ceremony took place in  Mahahual  fishing village, before a large crowd that appreciated the magnificent specimens and expressed support for the competitors .

The victory for ” Yellow Fin” was almost imminent, the boat captured a fine specimen of 55.5 pounds blue marlin , which was the biggest catch of all competition and , therefore, which received the highest score .

Gerardo Pérez Zafra also managed to capture two Wahoo of 29.5 and 17 pounds, and 14 pound Barracuda.  They earned a total of 2000 128.5 points for the final score , with this they earned the undisputed champions of the 2014 Governor’s Cup in Mahahual.

In turn, the vessel ” Royal Challenger” white marlin caught a White Marlin 45.5 -pound , two Gold , 28.5 and 20 pounds and a 16 pound Wahoo , reaching a final score of 621 thousand points , thereby slipping into the second position .

” Shelby Dee ” slipped to third place by catching a Blue Marlin that weighed 54 pounds , making 620 thousand points.

Other prizes awarded during this edition of the 2014 Governor’s Cup ,  fourth place was won by the vessel ” My Favorite Toy” , which captured a White Marlin of 48 pounds , and two Gold , one of 26.5 and a 11.5 pounds , a total of 466 thousand points, and won an ATV.

In position number 5 to 14 motorcycles were delivered to the winners and in the following order :  ” Turquoise II ” Captain José Miguel López Herrera with 1,412 points ;  ” My Toy” Captain Raul Valencia with 1,319.50 points ;  ” Squalo ” Captain Sergio Martinez Sosa with 1,162.50 points ;  ” Marifer ” led by Enrique Ortega points  1,112.50 ;  “Sea Star” by Captain Miguel Marzuca with 1,085.50 points ; v ” Smooke Reel” under Antonio Castilla with 1,075 points ; the boat “Blue Marlin ” Captain Juan Pech Encalada thousand points ;  ” Mmm … you have? ” Captain Jimenez Azael Sauri with 875 points ;  ” Gringo ” commanded by Javier Diaz with 538.50 points and finally in the fourteenth position , the boat “Another Toy” by Captain Jorge González Camera with 371 points.

It is noteworthy that among the other participants who did not occupy any of the first 14 places, surprise prizes were raffled, including refrigerators, gas vouchers, fishing equipment, accommodation vouchers in Mahahual hotels, among others.

Tournament officials and the organizing committee were Gelmy Alvarez, Roque Pink, Mario Mario Villanueva Villanueva father and son, and Masedonio Balam, all from Puerto Morelos.

The Dorado Fishing Tournament will be held this upcoming week in Mahahual, and another big crowd is expected.
