Winter has arrived in Mahahual. It got down to 61 degrees last night, and only got up to 70 degrees yesterday and was cloudy. Right now it is 70 degrees but the sun is coming out.
Yesterday was Saturday, and we had a cruise ship full of Europeans in town. What was funny the cruise ship tourists were all walking around in shorts and short sleeve shirts, and all the locals were bundled up in long sleeves and coats. It was cloudy and overcast, and it looked like it does back in the states right before a snow storm.
I myself was cold all day yesterday, I still wore shorts, but with out the sun, it still got chilly. Last night I slept with a blanket, and closed all the doors and windows, I never do that. I wore socks, sweat pants and a long sleeve shirt last night when I got home and watched some TV. I used to make fun of people when I first got down here about getting cold when it was 70 degrees, but now I am one of them.
All the cold air from the USA is being pushed down on us from the north, and the whole Yucatan is having some winter weather. Today it is only expected to get up to 76 for a high, but it is sunny so it is not that bad. It is supposed to be back to normal on Tuesday when it gets back up to 85 degrees. That is one good thing about winter weather here in Mahahual, it only lasts two or three days when it arrives, and everything is back to the 80s after a couple of days.
What surprised me yesterday was there were people in the water swimming and riding kayaks, and splashing around. The water is always 81 degrees here year round, so being in the water was warmer than walking around.
So even though it is not snowing here like it is up and down the east coast of the USA, it is still winter and cold here now in Mahahual for us. Kind of good weather to watch the NFL playoffs today, with a little nip in the air. Padrinos is opening at 3pm today for the games, and there should be a good crowd there later today.
So it is winter in Mahahual today and tomorrow, and then it will be over, and we will warm up and survive another cold cruel 3 days of winter in Mahahual.
So all you people up north try to keep warm, and remember.
