I am sitting here today thinking of something to write. It is raining and overcast, and I am trying to come up with something to write about. I have some questions and comments to answer and some technical stuff to write about, but today I am not in the mood. High season is winding down, and to tell you the truth, it has been busy here, and the last couple of days I have just been relaxing at home.
I was looking through some of the old stuff I have written in the past and I came across a photo I took from my second Semana Santa here, I think. Anyway, I know it is four or five years old at least. I call it “Mexican Boy Comes of Age”.
There is a background to this photo of course. I was sitting on the beach during Semana Santa, and this beautiful young woman in a thong bikini came and sat in the lounge chair next to me. She attracted a lot of attention when she walked around on the beach, and men, of course, always are checking out a hot woman in a bikini here on the beach.
So I was sitting in my lounge chair taking everything in, like I always do, and I was kind of watching all the reaction to the string bikini when the woman walked up and down the beach.
Well to my surprise I noticed a little Mexican boy about 6 or 7 years old staring at the woman. She got up to go to the water, and the little boy just stared at her with big eyes. I think it could have been the first time he saw a woman in a string bikini, because he was taking it all in.
He watched her all the way to the water and back, and just as she came back to lay down in the lounge chair, I took a photo of him staring at her, while his family was taking a photo. His expression is priceless, and I thought to myself, I think this young boy has discovered what makes the world go round.
Here is another funny but true story from some years back.
“This is a another true funny story. Yesterday I was working at the cruise ship port, and I was working at Shark Tours. A little 10-year-old girl from South Carolina saw me in my South Carolina Gamecock hat and brought her family over to me. They wanted to go snorkeling and hang out on the beach all day. I think they were from Rock Hill, and I set them up with a snorkeling tour for the whole family and beach at our resort. I was walking them to our shuttle that takes them into town, (we provide free ride into town if you go to our beach). Well, I walked them to the shuttle and this girl was fascinated that someone from South Carolina was here in Costa Maya and she kept asking me questions about living here, as I walked her and her family to the safari truck we use. Well they all boarded the shuttle and as the little girl was about to get on she reached over and slipped me a $1 bill as a tip. I looked down at her and I did not know what to do, so I said, “Thanks”, and walked away. I got a couple of steps away and I started to turn around and give her, her $1 bill back, I figured she needed that one dollar more than me, but I thought to myself, if I do that I may hurt her feelings or something because I knew she was being sincere. She was so funny slipping me the bill, and did it kind of secret like. I got to thinking that probably made her day, tipping a fellow Gamecock in Mexico, and she would share this story with her friends and people in South Carolina. I don’t know where she learned to tip from, but she acted like she had done it before, she even kind of slipped me the money like it was a drug deal or something. I had to get this down before I forgot it. They went to the beach, went snorkeling and had a great time. It has been South Carolina week here in Costa Maya. More later.”
