This is my favorite fishing tournament here in Mahahual, and I go every year to the finals. Last year a 481 blue marlin won the title, the biggest marlin ever caught here, I think.
During the tournament I noticed some women in lab jackets cutting out some samples of the flesh of some of the fish caught during the tournament. I was curious, so I went up asked the woman, and come to find out they were samples of the fish DNA to log and monitor the fish in the future, and keep track of the population. They are out of the government wildlife offices in Chetumal.
