Back in Barrio Cinco Cinco

I am staying at the Don Kike hotel now, right across the street from where I used to live.  When I first got to Mahahual, I stayed at Fernandos hostel in the middle of Mahahual for about 3 or 4 months.  After that I moved into a private room at the Kay Kook hotel in neighborhood 55, Or Barrio Cinco Cinco,  as some of the locals and I call it.

I lived there for two years while I was working at the port doing tours.  A lot of the people who work at the port and on the malecon lived there also  I was the only American, or gringo, living there.  This neighborhood is total Mexican, and I am right smack dab in the middle of it again.

Last night I was watching some baseball on TV, and I got hungry, and I did not feel like going into the Casitas, or into Mahahual. to get something to eat.  It was also kind of raining off and on.  So at about 8:30pm, I decided to walk across the street into the barrio and see what I could find to eat.

So I found a nice little taco stand, and since I was watching baseball, I decided to get a couple of hot dogs to go, to take back and finish watching game.

So I am standing there waiting for my hot dogs, and I am watching the guy making tacos, and the whole family working to make orders.  The father and the mother waited on people and took the orders, while the father cooked.  There was a little girl maybe 8 or 9 years old, and she also worked.  She served the orders in the to go bags, added the salsas, would hand people their orders, and say gracias.

As I am waiting for my hot dogs, I was watching the man make the tacos, and they looked real good.  There were pork, beef, chorizo, and tripe tacos.  I must have watched make 4 or 5 orders, so decided they looked so good, I had to order a couple.

I took my hot dogs and tacos home, the tacos were better than the hot dogs, and finished watching the baseball game.  Tacos and hot dogs watching baseball, just another Saturday evening in Barrio Cinco Cinco.
