Everywhere I go lately in Mahahual, I see land being cleared for development. On the malecon, New Mahahual, and now in Barrio 55. A lot of building has started here in the last couple of months. New houses are going up, and commercial development is starting to pick up.
I left the K’ay Kook hotel where I am staying, the other morning, and right across the street they were clearing the jungle in front of the hotel. Now I have lived off and on here at the K’ay Kook hotel for the last five years, and that jungle has always been there. Well they had to stop clearing the land because they found a boat right in the middle of the jungle, no telling how long it had been there.
They don’t mess around down here, it took them about two days and they cleared out the whole property. I noticed last night a lot of the local villagers collecting a lot of the wood to use later for their fires. The land will be cleaned of everything in a couple of days, they do not waste anything here.
I am sure something commercial will be going up here, because it is in a great location.
