Holiday Season is Over in Mahahual

It has been a very busy holiday season for me, Mahahual, and the whole of Costa Maya. From Thanksgiving until this past weekend, the town has been full of tourists off of cruise ships.  We had cruise ships every day of the week because Christmas fell on a Sunday this year.  Because Christmas was on a Sunday this year, a lot of cruise lines changed their schedule to accommodate the holiday season.  We usually don’t get a lot of ships on the weekend here, so this year was a little different.

Last Thursday here, was one of the busiest days I can remember.  Every place on the malecon was full, and there was not a singe place on the beach.  There were nice crowds almost every day in town during the holiday season.

Last Thursday, huge ship was here.

So many people, some ended up sitting in the water.

I was so busy, I would leave my place at about 9am, and would not get back until 8 or 9pm, eat something, watch a bowl game, and then go to bed.  This went on for about three weeks.  I talked to a whole lot of people interested in moving or retiring here in the future.  I also met a whole bunch of people from South Carolina off of cruise ships here this year. People from South Carolina find hard to believe there is someone from South Carolina like me, here in the middle of nowhere.

I also had a great Christmas this year, and I had 5 or 6 boxes brought down from the USA.  A friend of mine, and a blog reader, Denny Sprunger, was driving down from Indiana, and I had my Christmas gifts mailed to him so he could bring them down in his van. My mother and some of my friends in Greenville, South Carolina sent me some stuff down, as well as a couple of blog readers.

One of the boxes I opened had some Georgia hats and some shorts in it, so I looked at the note inside, and it said it was from a Probate Judge in Georgia.  My first thought was, oh no, maybe somebody in Georgia was suing me, then I noticed it was from a blog reader Rusty Wright in Georgia.  (Thanks Rusty, I love hats, and camo shorts)

I also got a box from a friend of mine Dan Austin, who is a coach at the University of South Carolina, with a pair of Under Amour shoes, and some other Gamecock attire, I am set for the whole the year now.

My new Gamecock shoes, very comfortable.

I also got some other stuff like a Cubs hat and a couple of Cubs shirts, and other things from friends of mine in the USA, so I had a great Christmas.  In fact I am set for the year in clothes and hats, I now have to pick out my different combinations every morning, I have so much to choose from.

Ok this post is for my Clemson Facebook friends, Russ Langley, Sheila Perdue Eldred, Melinda Pitts Burgess, Don Garner, and other Clemson faithful. I must admit I was totally wrong about Clemson and the ACC. The ACC is the second best football conference in the country, and the Big Ten is very overrated. So as my punishment (self-imposed) for my trashing Clemson and the ACC this year, I am going to wear this ACC Football hat tomorrow on cruise ship day, that Ronald R. Jr. Romano sent me. There will be 4 ships in town. I was impressed with Clemson’s win over OSU, and if Clemson beats Alabama next week, I will wear the ACC football hat for a whole week on cruise ship days. I admit it when I am wrong.

My punishment.

So now after Clemson’s big win last night I have to wear an ACC hat for a whole week down here, I was wrong, and I admit it.  Congrats Clemson, it pains me to say that, but you guys deserve it.  There was a ship cancellation today, so I got a one day reprieve before I start my tribute to Clemson and the ACC.

I had an extra Gamecock shirt, so I gave one to Elana one of the massage girls at the Tropicante for Christmas.

This is my little friend on the malecon, she sells souvenirs to the tourists during the Christmas break from school. During cruise ship season she works the malecon selling her gifts, she is learning English, and comes by and says hello to me every day She makes more money than I do, I am sure.

I also got a case of Hormel chili from cruise ship tourist Joanne Krebs from Florida for Christmas. I also have to throw in there she is a Trump voter and supporter, as payback.

So starting this week, things are back to normal here, and the holidays are over.  Monday through Friday will be the days now that the majority of ships come here now.  I have to admit, this was the busiest holiday season I can remember here in the last five years.

I am also way behind on this blog with stories and information, and I will try to catch up this week.  It is hard to talk to tourists all day, and answer questions, and then go home and try to write something, plus I am getting old.

Thanks for reading,
